Isabella · Today's insight
"Your breakfast spike this morning reached 168 mg/dL — the oat porridge with banana. Swapping the banana for berries would likely keep you under 150. This afternoon you're doing well. Your estimated A1c is down to 6.8% — a real improvement from last month."
New to Ziva?

Ziva Health is an AI-powered health companion for managing conditions like diabetes through daily tracking and personalised coaching. Isabella is Ziva's AI coach - she reads your glucose every day, shows you what's driving your levels, and guides your meals, activity, and habits to help you stay in range.

How Ziva works

Three steps to understanding and managing your glucose.

📈
01
Track your glucose daily
With a CGM for continuous readings, or Ziva's Bluetooth glucometer for fasting and post-meal checks. Both sync automatically - no manual entry.
🥗
02
Log meals, activity & habits
Log what you eat, when you move, how you slept, and your stress level. Isabella connects these to your glucose readings and shows you the pattern.
💡
03
Get coached & improve
Isabella guides your meals, activity, and medication every day. Your care team sees your data and can adjust your plan remotely - between appointments.

Metabolic education

Four things move
your blood sugar every day.

Most people know food affects glucose. But activity, sleep, and stress are equally powerful - and they interact. Isabella tracks all four simultaneously, shows you the connections, and helps you use them to stay in range more consistently.

🥗
Food
Carbohydrates raise glucose - but how fast depends on what you eat them with, when, and how much. Isabella shows you your personal post-meal patterns.
🚶
Activity
Even a 15-minute walk after a meal can lower your post-meal spike by 20–40 mg/dL. Muscles absorb glucose without insulin - your most powerful natural tool.
😴
Sleep
Poor sleep raises cortisol and growth hormone, which increase fasting glucose. One bad night can raise your morning reading by 10–20 mg/dL. Isabella tracks the pattern.
😤
Stress
Stress hormones trigger glucose release from the liver - a spike with no food involved. Isabella notices when your readings don't match your meals and asks about stress.

Isabella · Weekly summary
"Your Time in Range improved to 72% this week — above the 70% goal. The biggest driver was the walks after lunch on Wednesday and Thursday. Your Thursday morning fasting spike was sleep-related, not food. Keep the post-meal walks going and aim for 7+ hours tonight."
Glucose monitoring

CGM or finger prick —
Ziva works with both.

Not everyone needs a CGM. Ziva supports both monitoring approaches - continuous glucose monitoring for real-time data, and a Bluetooth glucometer for structured fasting and post-meal checks. Both feed the same dashboard and coaching engine.

CGM
Continuous readings every 5 minutes. See exactly how every meal, walk, and stressor moves your glucose in real time.

Isabella: Great combination - peak was only 142 mg/dL. The walk made a 28 mg/dL difference.

Based on your carb budget (45g remaining), Isabella suggests: salmon with roasted vegetables and a small portion of brown rice. Estimated post-meal peak: 148 mg/dL - within range.
Nutrition coaching

Every meal is a data point.
Isabella connects food to your glucose.

Generic diabetes diet advice tells you to "eat less sugar." Isabella tells you that the pasta you had last Tuesday spiked you to 198 mg/dL but the identical portion with a salad first kept you at 154. That specificity changes behaviour. Your care team sets your carb targets - Isabella coaches every meal toward them.

✓Daily carb budget toward your prescribed target — Isabella coaches every meal within it
✓Post-meal glucose correlation — which foods spiked you and by how much
✓Glycaemic index coaching — practical food swaps, not abstract nutrition theory
✓Remaining carb budget shown at midday — dinner isn't a guessing game
✓Restaurant and takeaway guidance — Isabella helps you navigate menus without derailing
Key nutrition principle
It's not just what you eat - it's the order, combination, and timing. Vegetables first, protein second, carbs last reduces post-meal spikes by 20–30% for the same meal. Isabella teaches this in practice, with your own data as the proof.
Activity & habits

A 15-minute walk is
your most powerful glucose tool.

When you move, your muscles absorb glucose directly - without insulin. A short walk after a meal can cut your post-meal spike by 20–40 mg/dL. Isabella tracks your activity alongside your glucose and shows you the impact in your own data, so the connection becomes personal, not theoretical.

✓Post-meal walk reminder — Isabella prompts you 20 minutes after each main meal
✓Activity vs glucose shown side by side — your personal proof that it works
✓Sleep quality tracked — Isabella shows you the fasting glucose impact of poor nights
✓Stress check-ins — when glucose spikes don't match your meals, Isabella asks about stress and explains cortisol's role
✓Medication reminders — your prescribed schedule tracked via Ziva's adherence box, logged and correlated with glucose

Isabella · Habit insight
"Your Thursday fasting spike wasn't from food — you ate the same dinner as Wednesday. The difference was 5.5 hours of sleep vs 7.5. Cortisol released during poor sleep triggers your liver to release stored glucose. Nothing to change today — just good to understand why."
Daily routine

Isabella builds a diabetes routine
around your life, not the other way.

The structure is consistent - check, take medication, eat thoughtfully, move after meals, rest well. Within that structure, Isabella adapts to what you're eating today, how your glucose has been running this week, and what your care team has set as your targets.

The evidence

Why daily glucose monitoring works.

The connection between continuous glucose monitoring, lifestyle habits, and diabetes outcomes is well established. This is what the research shows.

70%
Time in Range goal
ADA evidence links ≥70% Time in Range to significantly lower rates of diabetic complications - retinopathy, nephropathy, and neuropathy - over a 10-year horizon. TIR is now considered a more actionable target than A1c alone.
58%
Prediabetes reversal rate
The CDC's National Diabetes Prevention Programme showed structured lifestyle intervention - monitored diet and 150 minutes of weekly activity - reverses prediabetes in 58% of participants and delays Type 2 onset by an average of 11 years.
1–2%
A1c reduction from lifestyle
Structured dietary changes and consistent physical activity can reduce A1c by 1–2 percentage points in Type 2 diabetes - comparable to adding a second oral medication, with no side effects and lasting benefit beyond the intervention period.

Understanding the condition

What is diabetes?

Diabetes is a chronic condition in which the body cannot properly regulate blood glucose (blood sugar). Normally, the hormone insulin - produced by the pancreas - moves glucose from the bloodstream into cells for energy. In diabetes, this process breaks down: either the pancreas doesn't produce enough insulin, or the body's cells don't respond to it properly (insulin resistance). The result is elevated blood glucose, which over time damages blood vessels, nerves, and organs. More than 37 million Americans have diabetes, and a further 96 million have prediabetes - most undiagnosed.

Types of diabetes

Type
What's happening
Prediabetes
Fasting glucose 100–125 mg/dL or A1c 5.7–6.4%. Insulin resistance beginning. Highly reversible with lifestyle changes - Ziva is built for this stage.
Type 2
Progressive insulin resistance and relative insulin deficiency. Most common form - affects 90–95% of people with diabetes. Strongly influenced by lifestyle, weight, and genetics.
Type 1
Autoimmune destruction of insulin-producing cells - requires insulin therapy. Ziva's CGM coaching supports Type 1 management but is primarily designed for Type 2 and prediabetes.
Gestational
Develops during pregnancy; increases risk of Type 2 later. Glucose monitoring during and after pregnancy is important.

Symptoms and warning signs

Type 2 diabetes often develops slowly and can be asymptomatic for years. When symptoms appear:

Common signs
  • →Increased thirst and urination
  • →Unexplained fatigue
  • →Blurred vision
  • →Slow-healing wounds
  • →Tingling hands or feet
Urgent — call your team
  • →Glucose above 300 mg/dL
  • →Glucose below 70 mg/dL with symptoms
  • →Confusion or shakiness
  • →Fruity-smelling breath
  • →Nausea with high glucose

Managing diabetes day to day

  • →Daily glucose monitoring — the foundation. CGM or glucometer gives you the feedback loop that makes all other changes meaningful
  • →Nutrition — carb management — not elimination, but understanding how carbs affect your glucose and managing quantity and timing
  • →Physical activity — post-meal walks, resistance training, and consistent daily movement lower glucose and improve insulin sensitivity
  • →Medication adherence — whatever your care team has prescribed, Ziva's adherence box logs every dose and correlates it with your glucose
  • →Sleep and stress management — both directly affect fasting glucose; tracking them helps you understand variability that doesn't have an obvious food cause
How Ziva supports all five pillars
Isabella monitors your glucose, nutrition, activity, medication adherence, sleep, and stress every day - connecting them so you can understand not just what your glucose is, but why, and what to do about it.
